SSYAA Hosts Jr. High Dance
Sanford Junior High School students danced to the music of local
DJ, Lucas Lannigan, who generously donated his time and
equipment to the event.
The SSYAA gave Smitty's gift cards to dance contest winners and
raffled gift cards from Subway, Bull Music and a free haircut
generously donated by Cassie Marshall of Magnolia's
Thanks to Lindee Watson and family for thier bakesale items and
Sanford Hannaford for thier donation of cookies. And thanks to
the SSYAA volunteers who made the evening possible: Michelle
Conley, Joe Zucco, Tom Mitchell, Bob Marshall, Cassie Marshall,
Heather Lawrence, Karen Bruno, Jamie Bruno and Lindee Watson.
SSYAA Receives JMG Grant
The JMG Foundation has awarded the SSYAA with a JOY
(Jumpstart Our Youth) grant of $1000. SSYAA board members Bob
Marshall, Tom Mitchell, Lindee Watson and Heather Lawrence
attended the grant presentationat the SHS Library on Monday,
March 16th where they were presented with a giant check
(created by the students). Jumpstart Our Youth (J.O.Y.) is a
partnership between JMG, the Unity Foundation, UniTel and the
Maine Community Foundation (MaineCF) which teaches today’s
young people the importance of smart funding and grantmaking
practices. Throughout the state, JMG students examined the
needs of nonprofit organizations, learned how to solicit and
review applications, gained an understanding of finance and
budgeting, and interviewed applicants seeking funds.
