Sanford-Springvale Youth Athletics Association

The Pee Wee jamboree is this Saturday.  Here are a few things to know as we come into this big day:

1.     Jamboree is at MARSHWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
Jamboree is not where Marshwood normally plays their games.  Please be sure you pass this along to your parents. Directions to Marshwood High School can be viewed here.

2.     Head Coaches must bring two paper copies of their roster with them to the weigh-ins.  
One copy gets turned in to the league, one stays with the head coach so that they can type that into the spreadsheet to submit electronically by Friday, Sept 16.  Mark Etro and/or Shaun Casey from Marshwood will be collecting the SMYFL copy of the rosters.

3.     Parking will be tight with 14 pee wee teams in attendance.  Please encourage families to bring as few vehicles as possible, and to carpool if possible.  There are 464 parking spaces located around the school, but there are approximately 700 families involved between football and cheering.  Parking along Route 236 will be allowed in the south-bound direction ONLY (same side as the school).  Please use extreme caution if parking along this high speed roadway.

4.     Coolers and grills are not allowed.  Teams can bring their water coolers in, but families will not be allowed to bring coolers or outside beverages in to the game.  Grills or any form of cooking in the parking lots is not allowed. These restrictions are the case for all regular season games, but it is especially important that families know this prior to the jamboree.  It is both an insurance and liability requirement due to potential for alcohol, fires, etc.

5.     No animals/pets are allowed on school grounds.  Again, an insurance and liability concern.

6.     Cheerleaders will line up next to their respective football teams, during opening ceremonies.  For organizations with more than one team, cheerleaders may stand next to one team or the other, or split up to have cheerleaders stand next to each of their teams, as the teams are not side-by-side.

7.     Football teams should gather at the practice area behind the bleachers when arriving at Marshwood High School first thing in the morning.  Each team will have an assigned area to gather on the practice field, and there will be someone directing players/coaches to their assigned gathering area.

8.     There will be running water available throughout the day that coaches can refill water jugs at.

The SSYAA has joined the Southern Maine Youth Football League (SMYFL) effective for the 2011 Football season.

SMYFL is a well-organized league with a long history in operating a successful travel league in southern Maine.  The SSYAA Seniors football program will now participate in this league instead of our prior intercity league. The Seniors will be organized into one team with two squads (A & B). The squads are organized similar to a high school Varsity & Junior varsity. They will participate in the SMFYL Pee-Wee Jamboree and eight regular season games against teams from Noble, Marshwood, York, Somersworth & Kittery in the 2011 season. Teams from Gorham, Wells & Kennebunk are also in this league however we are not scheduled to play them this season. The A & B squads play separate games each weekend with the B squad playing first, immediately followed by the A squad game.  All players are guaranteed playing time by both SSYAA and SMYFL rules.
